The SRMC® course has been specially designed by subject experts to provide a comprehensive and diverse learning experience that aims to equip individuals with the practical skills, knowledge and competence to operate confidently, and credibly, as a Security and Risk Management Consultant.

Throughout the distance learning course we enable you to achieve a broad and comprehensive understanding of risk management and its associated practices. The goal is to not only significantly improve your skill set and gain a selection of recognised qualifications, but to also develop your practical understanding and widen your future career opportunities. As an example, many of our former students have gone on to secure senior positions within the 'Big Four' consultancies; Energy and Extractives, Aviation, Defence and Media, as well as other leading risk management organisations. The course will also equip you with the skills required to consult in a broad range of risk management and business practices.

The additional FCBS Module 1: Introduction to Consulting Essentials qualification has been curated using the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 in Professional Consulting framework and is the first module students must complete on their journey to Chartered status. It aims to provide an introduction to the consultancy profession and an appreciation of the wide range of skills & knowledge required to be an effective consultant, no matter your sector, background or industry.

  • How does this distance learning course work?

Both the Level 6 SRMC® and the FCBS distance learning courses are delivered to you fully online, using a blend of live and recorded sessions, supported by a range of resources and course features. The courses are designed to be accessible to you wherever you are located, as long as you have Internet access.

  • Who teaches the course?

Each course is led by a designated Course Leader, and the various Unit learning sessions are delivered by subject specialists. You will be able to communicate with the Course Leaders who will support, guide and advise you throughout the programme.

  • What’s the structure?

The SRMC course is structured in three units, each of the units is eight weeks in duration. Overall, the course lasts for 24 weeks. You will have two core modules to complete and one that you can choose from a list of subject areas. These are highlighted in the course information above. The FCBS course is entirely flexible and can be completed at your convenience with no start dates or assignment deadlines. Any live sessions are recorded and uploaded into your student forum to watch back in your own time.

  • When does course take place?

A new SRMC cohort begins every month, the calendar for this training year is shown on the page above. You may join any upcoming cohort during the training year. The FCBS module can be completed at any time.

  • What happens if I need to pause my studies or move to a different cohort?

No problem - for the SRMC course, just contact the Course Leader and we will be able to move to a different cohort. The FCBS module can be completed at your own pace and can be picked up whenever you are ready to continue learning.

  • What happens if I fall behind?

If you are struggling to keep up, or need more time and support, all you need to do is to contact the SRMC Course Leader and you will receive the necessary support, guidance and advice to keep you on track. The FRG Team is highly experienced in delivering and supporting online learning and we are here to assist you throughout.

  • What if I am in a completely different time zone?

You have access to the materials 24/7; and all live sessions will be timetabled so that they are able to match time zone requirements of each cohort where possible. In some cases, there will be repeated live sessions to ensure that all students have the opportunity to attend from varied time zones and each live session will be recorded and uploaded for students to listen back in their own time.

  • I have never studied at this level before, how difficult is it?

You will need to be committed to your studies and will have to do some reading in your own time. The course is not designed to catch you out, but to provide you with information and content that increases your knowledge. As always, if you feel that you are struggling, all that you need to do is contact the Course Leader for assistance. If you are worried about the level of study, it is recommended to complete the FCBS Level 5 module first as this is pitched at an easier level so will help to ease you back into a student mindset.

  • How many hours a week will I need to study?

You will need to be prepared to study for about five hours per week as a minimum. The actual amount of time you spend on the course will depend on the amount of effort that you can commit and your other priorities. However, you will be expected to self-study to build your knowledge and understanding and to prepare for your assignments.

  • What types of assessments are there on this course?

Each Unit has an assessment, and these vary from case studies to presentations, essays and reports. You will be given the timescales, requirements and full details in your Assignment Brief provided by the Course Leaders. You must pass all assessments from the first two SRMC core units and one elective unit to successfully complete the SRMC course. Similarly, all of the FCBS module assignments must be completed to gain the Level 5 CMI Award in Professional Consulting. As always, your course leaders will be there to guide and advise.

  • When can I expect feedback on my assessments?

Provisional feedback on marked SRMC assessments will normally be given to you electronically within 3 working weeks, if not earlier. Final results will need to be ratified by our accrediting body, ATHE, who externally assess your work once all of the units are complete. You will receive your final results at the end of this process. For the FCBS module, assignments will be provisionally marked by the course leader before being sent to CMI for the final assessment.

  • Apart from the online live sessions will there be any other face-to-face teaching?

For those who wish to, and at your own expense for food and accommodation, you will be able to attend our residential SRMC course for specific subject sessions related to your studies as an additional option.

  • Sounds great-how do I enrol?

Choose one of the payment methods outlined above and immediately enrol, or reach out to one of the team if you wish to claim use of your ELCAS or pay via another method. At the start of the course, you will be prompted to fill out a Student Information Form where you will be able to pick your chosen cohort and elective unit.
